Used in the production of fertilizers, e.g., superphosphate of lime and ammonium sulfate. It is widely used in the manufacture of chemicals, e.g., in making hydrochloric acid, ntric acid, sulfate salts, synthetic detergents, dyes and pigments, explosives, and drugs.
