All files are Cut 2 and 5-1/2" in length.
Swiss made Glardon Vallorbe® Barrette Escapement files have square handles. Escapement file lengths are measured from tip to the end of the cut and measurements do not include the tang. Escapement files are also called Watchmakers files.
Barrette files are tapered in width and thickness, coming to a rounded point at the end. Only the flat side of a barrette file is cut, leaving a safe edge and top.
Half Round files are tapered in width and thickness, coming to a rounded point on the tip. They are cut on both sides.
Round files are gradually tapered and cut to the point.
Square escapement files gradually taper in width and thickness down to the point.
Three Square files are gradually tapered and cut to the point.
Equalling files are parallel in width and tapered in thickness to make possible perfectly flat filing.
Knife files are tapered in width and thickness, but the knife edge has the same thickness from point to shoulder. They are cut on both sides. Can be used to file in a slot or wedge shaped opening. The curved knife edge allows for easily filing in restricted areas.
